2023 Project Planning – Liska Living
Hey ya’ll,
Today I’m writing about my 2023 project list! For the record, my husband is unaware of this list. ? Although, we have talked about a lot of these things repeatedly, so I don’t think anything will be a surprise to him. One of my goals this year is to learn power tools! I’m nervous and scared, but that’s all because it’s new right? Not going to stop me! ?? I just want to gain some confidence with them, and I’m planning on taking you guys along for the ride. You can all watch me fail, but hey, I’ll keep my dignity for trying ??ββοΈ I think this is a realistic way for us to save money while still getting the end result that we want. Plus, what greater satisfaction than knowing you did something yourself? For the record, yes, I understand that this will probably take a lot more time to do, but that’s what happens when you’re learning and keeping your household running, am I right? Doesn’t mean it’s not worth trying!
First on the list is completing the powder room. I shared earlier this month that we were updating it, but I haven’t done any reveals yet! It is 90% complete, but I need to add the wallpaper and it recommended waiting 4 weeks after painting before applying. Well, as much as I wanted to do it right then and there, I figured with the holidays and everything coming up it was best not to rush it. So, that will be the first thing we do in January.
The next on the docket is updating both our boys’ rooms! We moved into our home when our oldest was one and he will be 5 this year! ? His interests have majorly changed and the baby blue in his room just isn’t cutting it anymore. This will be the main part of their birthday gift so we will be trying to complete this project in February. We will paint, update night stands, add more storage (shelving space is much needed), and update decor (think artwork, rug, pillows, etc). Check out my Instagram page for the moodboards!
Next, I’d like to finally finish our primary bedroom update. I started that in the fall by repainting the wall our bedroom is on Dark Olive by Benjamin Moore (such a beautiful color!), replacing the lamps on our nightstands, and adding artwork above our bed. I need to repaint the rest of our room and I want to add picture framing on the feature wall as well. Ideally, we’ll add a rug to layer to make the space feel even more cozy, and a bench at the end of our bed. I also want to rearrange some of the furniture. (See the post here on where it stands now).
After that, we’ll likely take a break from things to save up some money for other projects. What I know more than anything my husband would love to do is to get a new vanity in our primary bathroom. You guys…you’ll never believe what we have in our PRIMARY bathroom. A pedestal sink. Yep. You heard that right. When the homeowners remodeled their bathroom, they put in ONE pedestal sink. ??ββοΈ The biggest design flaw we have with this house. We have so little storage — it’s the worst! I have a vanity without a sink outside the bathroom, which we would also like to replace with a matching vanity with a sink. However, it’s hard because I really don’t like the tile in the primary bath, which is everywhere. It’s on the floors, 2/3 of the wall, and our master closet. ? So that makes things complicated because we’d ideally like to repaint and replace tile, but that becomes a big project that we’re not ready to take on. I still think we will replace the vanities though, because we can always take them out when it’s time to retile. And like I said…pedestal sink.
Finally, I hope to purchase a new dining room table. Currently, we have a table that belonged to my great-grandmother. And while I LOVE the sentimental value of it, it really isn’t very sturdy and would be best to make into a small table to place elsewhere in our home. I love to host and as our extended family continues to grow, we need a table that can be extended to fit 10-12 people, ideally. I know the table that I want to get, but it’s a matter of saving the money for it. Guys, do you know how expensive dining chairs are?! Sheesh, what a racket!
Honestly, that sounds like a lot writing it out! Whether or not it all gets done remains to be seen. Outside of these things, anything else is bonus! Hopefully we don’t have any major things we need to replace. However, we’ve replaced every small and large appliance in our home except the laundry since moving in — some not so glamorous changes but necessary — so hopefully we don’t have to worry about anything unexpected!
What about you all? Do you have any goals for this year for your home? It could be as simple as re-painting a room, replacing some decor, or as large as replacing a roof or an appliance. I’d love to hear what you have planned. As always, thanks for being here and following along as we update our home! β€οΈ
Speak soon, friends!
