2024 Home Project List

Hi, friends!

Okay, it’s project wishlist time. Let’s recap. In 2023 these were my goals to achieve in our home:

  • Learn power tools (purchased and used a nail gun and jigsaw!) βœ…
  • Finish powder room (paint, wallpaper accent wall, new hardware) βœ…
  • E’s room update (new bed/bedding, paint, board & batten, new artwork/wall decor, shelving) βœ…
  • J’s room (new bed/bedding, paint, beadboard, new artwork/wall decor, shelving) βœ…
  • Finish painting master, rearrange furniture, βœ… picture frame moulding (in process of getting trim work done, but not finished yet — hoping this will be in the first or second week of the new year)
  • Other wishlist items but not a guarantee: new dining table and chairs or new master vanities ❌

I feel really proud that we were able to achieve all of those goals (mostly) last year! If you want to see the blog post on this you can find it here. Although we did not get the new dining table and chairs or new master vanities, we did end up upgrading our outdoor patio dining table as well as adding some new privacy landscaping in our backyard. Some things we didn’t necessarily plan for, but we ended up being happy we prioritized this things. We also upgraded the lighting around the outside of our home, which makes such a difference!

In terms of my 2024 project wishlist, the first project will be a DIY makeover of our laundry room. We have already purchased our new washer and dryer, but it’s currently in will-call so that we can do several of the cosmetic changes before delivery/install. I’ll share some mood boards soon in another post of what I’m thinking for our makeover!

We have several bigger projects we’d also like to do, but depending on the quotes we receive we may opt to do some things this year and others down the road. One of those things is re-doing our driveway. It’s all brick and although in theory it should look nice, the truth is that during the summer time it looks terrible. The number of weeds gets to be ridiculous and they aren’t easy to pull. Plus, I’m not keen on having to spray herbicides all over the driveway every year on the off chance this helps reduce the weeds a little.

The other big project we are looking to do is adding sliding door closet space in our basement for additional storage and walling off an area to be used as an office/work space. This isn’t something I feel ready to tackle ourselves so we will likely be looking to hire out. But, if it waits another year, who knows how I’ll feel. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Any other larger purchases (like the dining table and new primary bath vanities) will be dependent on what we do above. Also, since we don’t have a very large kitchen or a mudroom, I’ve always had a hard time finding a place for a family “hub,” so to speak. It often falls in our kitchen (which I hate) our our entry table (again, I hate). I recently saw something on Pinterest that sparked an idea immediately for me. This should be a fairly quick and easy DIY (famous last words πŸ˜…) and I’m hoping it will make things more functional for us. However, I’m still not 100% on this. My only concern is that it will make the space where I’m envisioning it to be to feel less cozy. More to come on that… I also struggle so much with our formal living room/dining space. Partly I think that’s because I don’t have the pieces I ultimately would want that would make the spaces feel more cohesive. But I’ve been dreaming up some ideas to make that happen. We’ll see if this is the year!

So there you have it. Kind of boring. πŸ˜† But in all seriousness, I’m not a mega influencer with a huge budget and collaborations dropping at my feet. As much as I want to be an awesome DIYer, I still have to build some confidence with power tools and probably watch some (a lot) of YouTube videos. πŸ˜… Honestly, we did a lot this year in terms of upgrades. We are functioning on one income right now so we have to do what makes sense for us. I’m trying to remind myself of that. There’s plenty we’d love to do, but prioritizing projects that are important to the household as a whole is what gets done first. This might not always be “social media worthy,” but it needs to happen. That being said, I’m sure I will find some small projects here and there to do throughout the year, though 😜
