Laundry Room Plans/Inspiration

Hey all!

This blog post is suuuuuper delayed. If you follow me on socials then you have already seen this and all the back and forth we have done with our design as well as a lot of spoilers. (If you don’t follow me, you should! @liskaliving is my handle on all platforms!) But I’m writing this as if you haven’t already seen it all 😝

Here is a little idea of the before πŸ˜¬πŸ˜³πŸ™ˆ

As you can see, it is not the most functional. There are parts of it that are for sure, but it’s not great. Honestly the cabinets are installed too low, and also don’t utilize the vertical space. I personally don’t like the pedestals, because although they do provide storage, the washer and dryer are so tall and I personally like to be able to fold clothes on top of it, put things on it to treat/air dry. The height that it’s at does not make that very realistic for me since it comes up to my chest. We will be replacing ours with new ones, since these are about 14 years old and I am SO excited!

The main photo is the inspo I pulled when we were planning our laundry room makeover. We are trying to make this project as budget friendly as possible, while maximizing storage and function, and of course making it aesthetically pleasing! I love the color scheme we decided on for this space. The paint color is Sherwin Williams Alabaster and Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog. We already have Alabaster, which makes this an easy choice to brighten up the space. We’d love to do some paneling on the wall of some sort, likely beadboard because, again, we have some left over from a previous project. But I also LOVE the look of the vertical shiplap.

We hope to add more storage, including new upper stock cabinets that we will paint and will be taller to take advantage of the vertical space. We may switch out the sink, although it’s difficult to find a stock cabinet that is 24″ wide, so it’s possible we do something to tide us over in the meantime. We use the laundry room sink A LOT for outdoor stuff as well as our projects.

On the wall opposite the washer and dryer, we’d like to add some more storage — potentially buying vs. building a larger cabinet. I’m a big fan of closed/hidden storage. But, we’ve also talked about making it more of a mudroom and adding cubbies. We’re going to live with it for a little after we get all the flooring, and cabinets installed to see what might suit us best. We also plan to add some hooks for either jackets or utility items above the beadboard.

I will be posting a few more updates on all our DIYs that we have done in this space so far so that you can save them for later!

Speak (very) soon, friends!
